Little Discoveries, Big Ambitions

Discovery is standing side-by-side with Save the Children through the RISE Programme to provide vital support to some of the most vulnerable children and families across the UK.

When COVID-19 hit, Save the Children worked closely with communities to establish families' greatest needs. They found that school closures, job losses and economic hardship posed a severe threat to children’s learning – especially for families already living on low incomes.

Like other children, Isha, 7, and Lincoln, 11, have struggled with being out of school and separated from their friends, but they have found ingenious ways to keep those friendships alive. Their mum, Kerry, explains: “Isha has got a friend who she videocalls every day for a couple of hours. They each put the phone down on the floor, they set the dolls up and they play via videocall.”

Isha’s brother, Lincoln, has reached out to other people too, writing an inspirational poem for Save the Children about life under lockdown. It ends: “Don’t give up hope, the end is in sight, If we all stick together, we’ll all win this fight.” It’s a sentiment his sister echoes in her own message of hope: “Better days will come – keep smiling.”
