Discovery Committed to Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) put forth by the United Nations is a call to action to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, increase economic opportunity and preserve our natural resources. Discovery’s RISE program supports this framework for people and the planet and is committed to implementing these goals through our mission to Reduce Inequality and Support Empowerment.
This Mandela Day, Discovery RISE is taking over Discovery Family (channel 136) and Real Time (channel 155) on DStv, with #SavewithStoriesSA relaunching across the channels. Families can tune in on 17th/18th, and 24th/25th July to see South African personalities such as Stacey Fru and Jean de Villiers reading children’s story books out loud.
WE STAND TOGETHER IN SOLIDARITY AGAINST RACISM AND VIOLENCE
Discovery is proud to support organizations like Save the Children and others fighting to Reduce Inequality and Support Empowerment. Our partners at Save the Children reach hundreds of millions of children every year, promoting racial equity and ensuring children have access to the learning and resources they need to succeed in school and life – empowering future generations today.
Coronavirus knows no borders. Life has been turned upside down for everyone in the struggle to contain the virus. Trusted caregivers are under immense pressure. And children are feeling this too. But there is something you can do to help those affected across South Africa. You can help a child continue their education, protect children in unsafe households, and support families who have lost their income.
At Discovery, we power people’s passions spotlighting diverse voices, stories and cultures. Passions are a privilege, elusive for many, due to systemic poverty, discrimination and injustice. At Discovery, Inc., we are committed to Reducing Inequality and Supporting Empowerment for underserved populations across the globe, fighting for justice and equality, providing access to opportunities to power passions for all.
Together, with our partner Save the Children, we can:
Support 10M+ people in 22 nations identified as having the most need, and even more in the communities where Discovery employees live and work
Secure basic human needs and bring scale to education and social mobility programs
Provide career and learning opportunities with Discovery through our professional development initiative, Talent Unlimited
By leveraging Discovery and Save the Children's global footprint, we can drive scalable, sustainable and measurable impact that will power people's progress at every level.
Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. Since its founding 100 years ago, they’ve changed the lives of more than 1 billion children. In South Africa and around the world, they give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. They do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share.
We’re working with Save the Children to support the South Africa's most vulnerable families by helping child continue their education, protect children in unsafe households, and support families who have lost their income.
